Devil May Cry

Short Review
Devil May Cry is based primarily on the light novels derived from the popular video game. The story centers around Dante, a half demon half human who runs a demon hunting business called Devil May Cry. In the first episode Dante saves a young orphan girl who becomes almost like a sister to him, taking care of him and cleaning up his messes at the shop. He takes on various cases yet is always in debt and struggles to even feed himself. There really isn’t much to say about this series because it was very short lived. It only ran for 12 episodes but could have turned into something very good had it been given more time and development. I would say that if you are just looking for a quick series to watch, go ahead, but don’t expect much. Enjoy the short lived action of this series.

Zero No Tsukaima

Louis is a student at the Tristain Academy of Magic. She is also known as Louis the zero because she cannot perform magic the way she intends, even the simplest of spells goes wrong. On this world there are those who use magic which are known as nobles or mages, and those who cannot use magic known as commoners or plebeians. As part of her magic training she has to perform a ritual of summoning which will summon her lifelong familiar. Most mages summon a creature that is a representation and reflection of their magical skills and abilities. Louis however summons a human from a different world, our world, who is not familiar with magic or anything about where he has been brought. His name is Saito, and he is a perverted teenager. Louis is embarrassed by him and treats him worse than any normal familiar, he is basically treated as a slave. Their relationship progresses throughout the story and they discover a love for one another. They discover that Saito was summoned as a great warrior to protect a great magic user, a user of void magic. The reason why Louis has always had trouble with magic is because she was unaware that she was using the wrong type of magic. I enjoyed this anime quite a bit. It has two complete sequel seasons and is starting on its final season at the moment. I’m sure many of you have noticed but I have a bias towards the magic genre, so if you have any thoughts you would like to share about what you think of this show, please feel free to share them. Enjoy!

High School of the Dead

High School of the Dead begins as the story of an average teenage boy with girl problems, however it quickly changes as he witnesses a teacher being murdered in a graphic manner. As quick as he could, he runs and grabs the girl he thinks hes in love with and pulls her boyfriend/his best friend along with them. Soon they all realize that it is not normal people doing the killing when the dead begin to stand back up and start killing too. The three of them get stranded on the roof of the school, however the best friend was wounded and begins to show signs of turning into one of the undead. The main character is forced to kill his friend. The two of them then meet up with fellow classmates and attempt to make it to each of their homes to check on their families as they learn that the sickness is not something localized but an overnight global pandemic. This anime shows great promise for the zombie genre and I am still hoping they bring out a second season. The show ended on a point that was wide open to continue the story. It was very disappointing with nothing resolved. I’m not quite sure what happened or why it ended so abruptly, but like I said it showed great promise.  Enjoy!

Samurai Champloo

Samurai Champloo is a great stylistic anime that was short lived but well loved. The story begins with Fuu being saved by two different fighters. One is a tradition sword style ronin Jin, and the other is a fighter of no specific style that has skill equal to that of the other, Mugen. A few incidents happen that lead the three of them on a journey to find a samurai that smells of sunflower. Jin and Mugen want nothing more than to fight each other, However Fuu gets them to agree not to fight until they all find the samurai that smells like sunflower. I think that was very visually stimulating and couldn’t take my eyes off it. It had a great soundtrack and awesome character attitudes. It could have been longer but the storyline was kind of lacking and for the most part focused mainly on an appeal to the senses. But this is still a great show, check it out. Enjoy!

Short Review(sorry taking some time for myself for Christmas)

On a distant planet in a future unknown, small towns do their best to live their lives. However its not always easy with all of the outlaws and bandits. This story is about a man named Vash the Stampede, the humanoid typhoon. He is the man with a 60 billion double dollar bounty on his head. The story begins with two insurance agents who were dispatched to assess the situation involving Vash and find and follow him. They have nothing but rumors surrounding Vash to go on, and on their journey they come across quite afew people claiming to be Vash. However the one least likely to be the humanoid typhoon is a clumsy loud mouth lunatic that they come across. He is a man who values life above all else and refuses to kill even though he possesses reflexes and skill that are inhuman. The two insurance ladies finally realize that he is the real Vash and begin to follow him around. They soon realize that Vash is a magnet for trouble for the simple fact that he can’t seem to let others fall into harm’s way. It later comes to light the origins of Vash and his brother knives, and how all the people came to be on the planet.

Death Note

 The death note is a notebook used by shinigami to kill people.  Its rules are as follows;
1. The human whose name is written in the note shall die.
2. The note will not take effect unless the writer has the person's face in their mind when writing his/her name. Therefore, people sharing the same name will not be affected.
3. If the cause of death is written within 40 seconds of writing the person's name, it will happen.
4. If the cause of death is not specified, the person will simply die of a heart attack.
5. After writing the cause of death, details of the death should be written in the next 6 minutes and 40 seconds.
6. The note shall become the property of the human world, once it touches the ground of (arrives in) the human world.
7. The owner of the note can recognize the image and voice of its original owner, i.e. a god of death.
8. The human who uses this note can neither go to Heaven nor Hell.
9. If the time of death is written within 40 seconds after writing the cause of death as a heart attack, the time of death can be manipulated, and the time can go into effect within 40 seconds after writing the name.
10. The human who touches the Death Note can recognize the image and voice of its original owner, a god of death, even if the human is not the owner of the note.
11. The person in possession of the Death Note is possessed by a god of death, its original owner, until they die.
12. If a human uses the note, a god of death usually appears in front of him/her within 39 days after he/she uses the note.
13. Gods of death, the original owners of the Death Note, do not do, in principle, anything which will help or prevent the deaths in the note.
14. A god of death has no obligation to completely explain how to use the note or rules which will apply to the human who owns it.
15. A god of death can extend his life by putting human names on the note, but humans cannot.
16. A person can shorten his or her own life by using the note.
17. The human who becomes the owner of the Death Note can, in exchange of half of his/her remaining life, yet the eyeballs of the god of death which will enable him/her to see a human's name and remaining lifetime when looking through them.
18. A god of death cannot be killed even if stabbed in his heart with a knife or shot in the head with a gun. However, there are ways to kill a god of death, which are not generally known to the gods of death.
19. The conditions for death will not be realized unless it is physically possible for that human or it is reasonably assumed to be carried out by that human.
20. The specific scope of the condition for death is not known to the gods of death, either. So, you must examine and find out.
21. One page taken from the Death Note, or even a fragment of the page, contains the full effects of the note.
22. The instrument to write with can be anything, ( e.g. cosmetics, blood, etc.) as long as it can write directly onto the note and remains as legible letters.
23. Even the original owners of the Death Note, gods of death, do not know much about the note.
24. You may also write the cause and/or details of death prior to filling in the name of the individuals. Be sure to insert the name in front of the written cause of death. You have about 19 days (according to the human calender0 in order to fill in a name.
25. Even if you do not actually possess the Death Note, the effect will be the same if you can recognize the person and his/her name to place in the blank.
26. The Death Note will not affect those under 780 days old.
27. The Death Note will be rendered useless if the victim's name is misspelled four times.
28.  "Suicide" is a valid cause of death. Basically, all humans are thought to possess the possibility to commit suicide, it is, therefore, not something "unbelievable to think of".
29. Whether the cause of the individual's death is either a suicide or accident, if the death leads to the death of more than the intended, the person will simply die of a heart attack. This is to ensure that other lives are not influenced.

One day the shinigami named Ryuk decides to drop his death note to the human world out of boredom. A genius high school senior by the name of Light Yagami finds it and decides to give it a try. To his surprise he finds that it works. Light begins to start punishing criminals in massive numbers, and eventually draws the attention of world governments. They bring in a genius detective that only goes by the name of “L” who begins to narrow down the possibilities of who it is that is killing criminals. At the same time internet forums begin talking about a person named Kira who is killing people off, and start showing their support for him. Light eventually is put in the crosshairs of L when an FBI agent assigned to investigate all those related to the case, dies.  L introduces himself to Light at a college entrance ceremony and asks Light to help him with the case. This entire anime is a massive amount of mind fucks between Light and L. Each of them showing their massive intelligence and manipulative skills. I personally think that everybody should watch this show. It has an incredible cult following. People have even used this series as a premise for real world killings and death threats by creating a notebook that has the title Death Note, and including the same rules written inside as the anime. There have also been live action movies for this anime which use the same voice actors to make it seem more familiar to the anime followers.  WATCH IT! And Enjoy!

Denetsu No Yusha No Denetsu (Legend of the Legendary Heroes)

Warning Spoiler Alert!
Ryner Lute is a lazy magician and the bearer of the Alpha Stigma. The Alpha Stigma is basically the ability to see magic and understand every aspect of it by breaking it down making it so that the bearer can instantly recreate it. The alpha stigma bearer has always been looked at as a monster and feared by society, hence the reason why Ryner is so lazy. He pretends to be lazy in order not to draw attention to himself, when in reality he is very bright. He even takes the fall for a tragic massacre of his fellow military academy students. While imprisoned he reads nearly every book in the academy’s library, just going to show his true intelligence. He is later freed only due to his friendship with the King of the Roland Empire, Sion Astal. He is sent with Ferris Ellis on a journey to discover and recover the lost hero relic, items which were used in ancient times by heroes and which have unimaginable power. During this time Ryner and Ferris end up developing a strong bond between each other even though Ryner has always avoided making bonds because the ones he’s always made in the past have ended when the alpha stigma took control of him and either destroyed them or scared them so much that they wanted nothing to do with him. Throughout the series, Sion is constantly troubled with the thought of betraying Ryner in order to do what he believes is necessary for the future of the Roland Empire. Ryner while in prison wrote a report about how he thought the world would achieve peace based on his theory of taking naps. In the end Sion ends up betraying Ryner and the series is left open for a second season, which has yet to happen. Some may call it a cliché hero antihero storyline but call me a romantic, because I enjoyed this very much and am still waiting for the follow up. I recommend this to all.
