Devil May Cry

Short Review
Devil May Cry is based primarily on the light novels derived from the popular video game. The story centers around Dante, a half demon half human who runs a demon hunting business called Devil May Cry. In the first episode Dante saves a young orphan girl who becomes almost like a sister to him, taking care of him and cleaning up his messes at the shop. He takes on various cases yet is always in debt and struggles to even feed himself. There really isn’t much to say about this series because it was very short lived. It only ran for 12 episodes but could have turned into something very good had it been given more time and development. I would say that if you are just looking for a quick series to watch, go ahead, but don’t expect much. Enjoy the short lived action of this series.

Zero No Tsukaima

Louis is a student at the Tristain Academy of Magic. She is also known as Louis the zero because she cannot perform magic the way she intends, even the simplest of spells goes wrong. On this world there are those who use magic which are known as nobles or mages, and those who cannot use magic known as commoners or plebeians. As part of her magic training she has to perform a ritual of summoning which will summon her lifelong familiar. Most mages summon a creature that is a representation and reflection of their magical skills and abilities. Louis however summons a human from a different world, our world, who is not familiar with magic or anything about where he has been brought. His name is Saito, and he is a perverted teenager. Louis is embarrassed by him and treats him worse than any normal familiar, he is basically treated as a slave. Their relationship progresses throughout the story and they discover a love for one another. They discover that Saito was summoned as a great warrior to protect a great magic user, a user of void magic. The reason why Louis has always had trouble with magic is because she was unaware that she was using the wrong type of magic. I enjoyed this anime quite a bit. It has two complete sequel seasons and is starting on its final season at the moment. I’m sure many of you have noticed but I have a bias towards the magic genre, so if you have any thoughts you would like to share about what you think of this show, please feel free to share them. Enjoy!

High School of the Dead

High School of the Dead begins as the story of an average teenage boy with girl problems, however it quickly changes as he witnesses a teacher being murdered in a graphic manner. As quick as he could, he runs and grabs the girl he thinks hes in love with and pulls her boyfriend/his best friend along with them. Soon they all realize that it is not normal people doing the killing when the dead begin to stand back up and start killing too. The three of them get stranded on the roof of the school, however the best friend was wounded and begins to show signs of turning into one of the undead. The main character is forced to kill his friend. The two of them then meet up with fellow classmates and attempt to make it to each of their homes to check on their families as they learn that the sickness is not something localized but an overnight global pandemic. This anime shows great promise for the zombie genre and I am still hoping they bring out a second season. The show ended on a point that was wide open to continue the story. It was very disappointing with nothing resolved. I’m not quite sure what happened or why it ended so abruptly, but like I said it showed great promise.  Enjoy!

Samurai Champloo

Samurai Champloo is a great stylistic anime that was short lived but well loved. The story begins with Fuu being saved by two different fighters. One is a tradition sword style ronin Jin, and the other is a fighter of no specific style that has skill equal to that of the other, Mugen. A few incidents happen that lead the three of them on a journey to find a samurai that smells of sunflower. Jin and Mugen want nothing more than to fight each other, However Fuu gets them to agree not to fight until they all find the samurai that smells like sunflower. I think that was very visually stimulating and couldn’t take my eyes off it. It had a great soundtrack and awesome character attitudes. It could have been longer but the storyline was kind of lacking and for the most part focused mainly on an appeal to the senses. But this is still a great show, check it out. Enjoy!
